Villa Azul

A palace door leads through a foyer and into a small garden courtyard with wide walkways showcasing the colour of pink earth. Ancient metal chains hang from the tiled roof to channel rainwater into the ground. To the right is a larger courtyard from which a turquoise pool peeps. A gazebo on its deck holds cast iron chairs, the colour of a bright blue sky and a marble-topped table. In one of the bedrooms surrounding the poolside, with flooring the colour of the Mediterranean Sea, hangs an 18th century Jain painting. At the intersection of the courtyards is a double-height living area with a sloping vaulted roof through which a soft breeze blows. Upstairs, the master bedroom’s four-poster bed rests on a floor patterned like an intricate Persian carpet. In the bathroom, an antique wooden dressing table holds a glass sink. A window overlooks the courtyard and Villa Azul’s mystic Mediterranean charm.
