Step it up
Choosing the right type of staircase for your home is a big decision. Staircases make for a grand entrance in your home. A big part of the decision hinges on how much space you have and your home’s layout. Moreover, building intricate staircases can be very complex requiring careful measuring and precise craftsmanship. It’s not something for the amateur to take one except maybe a simple staircase outdoors.
There are a good number of staircase styles to choose from and here are few of our very own favourites :
1. Straight and simple
Straight staircases are the most common types found in the world. These are easy to climb, easy to build and only need to be connected at the top and bottom which means you can create freestanding types. These staircases can be customised by using different types of materials, accessories, steps, and balustrades and you can even include a central landing space in the middle of the staircase to ease the climb. Straight staircases are functional and beautiful but are hardly the most thrilling type of staircase to consider for your building. Many of Isprava’s villas for sale in Goa feature these stairs.
2. Spiral down
The spiral staircase is certainly the most interesting design. It has a helical arc, resembling the shape of a spring. All of the treads are wedge-shaped, but as opposed to the winder and arched staircases, these treads are all consistent in size. There is a central vertical post around which the treads radiate.
3. Two-sided
There is nothing that boasts grandeur like two ends of the staircase rumbling down to the floor. This design style has been making a statement ever since the olden days palaces. Having two sided staircases resulting in a landing on the same surface of the room, represents a royal look, particularly if they’re adjacent to the front door of your residence. Isprava’s luxury villas for sale in Coonoor feature this type of staircase.
4. Half-way there
Half landing stairs are functional and much safer, since the large landing limits the amount of treads someone can fall down. It also has a great deal of architectural interest in any design and can easily fit into the plan of most homes. This type of staircase is best suited to homes with tall ceilings or where the staircase runs through several levels of the house. Many of Isprava’s luxury holiday homes feature these staircases.
5. Circular staircases
A circular staircase is more like a traditional staircase than a spiral one — think of the kind you might find in a medieval castle. While it does go around and the steps are tapered, the curve is more relaxed than a spiral staircase with steps that are easier to navigate. Sometimes called helixed stairs, their curve is more graceful and less compact, which helps to create an architectural focal point.
