Travel: An essential on everybody’s list
Looking back to a time when going overseas seemed like an impossible task for the ordinary, we have come a long way. Gone are the days when it took months to cross the 7 seas to reach the other side. With the advancement in aircraft, improvement in connectivity and infrastructure, easy accessibility of transport and increase in modes of transport, travelling no longer remains a life-long dream to the ordinary. Increase in the feasibility of accommodation and the variety available due to the recent trend of vacation rentals has also contributed to the tours and travel industry.
Travelling is becoming an essential part of everyone’s life. The thought of being stuck in one place throughout your life, to be caught between boundary lines or not being able to see what exists elsewhere is a terrifying one. To some, it is an imprisonment of sorts. Hence, travelling is becoming an essential part of the lives of many. The desire to break free, explore, wander, experiment and find oneself are often associated with the desire to travel.
Travelling is so much more than just moving from one location to the other. Travelling enables us to cut unwanted ties, release stress, learn about new cultures, witness international marvels, experience dynamic living and so much more. It builds on an individual’s confidence, character, knowledge and broadens their perspective. Travelling allows one to get a break from their mundane lives. People get used to and then comfortable with their ways of being. They find it hard to break their monotonous patterns and routines even though it frustrates them. Everybody resorts to travelling at such times. Whether it is a quick vacation or even travel for work, individuals seem to be much happier when they get to travel to new and refreshing locations. If you go to faraway places and get outside of the comfortable bubbles that we build around ourselves, you will become more informed. That is good for you and the planet. Travelling, getting to know the world and connecting with people helps reduce the risk that areas of conflict will spread. Through travelling, one learns about the diversity of cultures and is able to eradicate all misconceptions attached to that culture. Through traveling our preconceptions are challenged and you will see other, perhaps better, ways of accomplishing positive things. Recent trends show that youngsters prefer spending their money on travelling over saving for future requirements. They want to learn new things, meet new people, discover places, gain experiences and most importantly need a break from their dull routines.
With the development in India too, the rate of travel is ever-increasing. Indians are not only breaking boundaries and travelling to far-off places, but also attracting lots of tourists to come into India. Pristine locations like Goa, Mumbai, Leh Ladakh, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, etc are popular tourist destinations. Hill stations like The Nilgiris, Shimla and Manali and other local towns like Alibaug, Mahableshwar and Lonavala are popular among Indians for internal travel. The simplified accessibility of transport, good connectivity between cities and easy process of booking hotel rooms or vacation rentals like luxury holiday homes, villas for rent or private bungalows for rent in popular destinations like Goa, Ooty, Mumbai, Hyderabad, etc. encourages travel.
Mark Twain said it best: 'Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.
